Thomas Jefferson on Redistribution of Wealth

“To take from one because it is thought that his own productivity has acquired too much, in order to give to others who have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association: the guarantee to everyone of a free exercise of his hard work and the profits acquired by it.”

- Thomas Jefferson

Card Crop for Soldiers

I am so excited to tell everyone about the Pulaski County Card Crop for Soldiers that was held today at the Maumelle Library. It was a small group of 5 but we had a wonderful time and made 45 cards. I will add this to the other 75 that I have that I have either made or have been donated to me over the last few weeks, so that makes 120 that I will be sending to our Arkansas Guard!!

We made birthday cards, thank you cards, miss you, love you, welcome baby cards and more!!! These cards were left blank so the soldiers can use them to send to their loved ones.

We were lucky to welcome a new member to SA as well! Melissa joins us after having suffered the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Her son-in-law was killed in Iraq on April 30th of this year by a roadside bomb. It was wonderful getting to meet her and hear her story. I presented her with a Soldiers' Angels coin to pass on to her daughter and grandsons as a small token of our appreciation for their sacrifice.

I will schedule another Card Crop for Soldiers in October. At our October crop we will make Christmas cards for the soldiers to send home as well as sign Christmas cards that will be sent to the soldiers. I will post the date as soon as I have it pinned down.

Soldiers' Angels Card-A-Thon was a great success!!!

This weekend Scrapbook Corner and Steph's Crop held a Card-A-Thon for Soldiers' Angels! Lots of people participated either by making cards or simply signing a handmade card while checking out. Not all of the cards have been signed, but we did collect 384 singed cards this weekend.

If you want to sign a card or donate additional handmade cards please go by Scrapbook Corner on Monday (they are closed tomorrow for Mother's Day) or contact me.

Thank you to everyone who participated!

Story:
Scrapping for soldiers
A Maumelle woman has turned her love of scrapbooking into a way to show support for deployed soldiers. Stephanie Ferrara started scrapbooking 13 years ago when her son, Truitt, 14, was a baby.

Some of these products will be available for use during the crop to make cards, but I will be setting some of them aside for door prizes! Who knows, you could go home with a Doodling for Scrapbooks book or maybe you have a little scrapper at home that would enjoy the Care Bears Scrapbooking book (stickers, paper and ideas)!

More FREE Mail!!

I send cards out to soldiers on almost a daily basis. Thank you cards, Happy Birthday cards, cards of encouragement, and just simple Hello's. Well today I was so happy to receive a card in the mail from a female soldier who really appreciates getting our cards and letters. She expressed how important it is to their morale to know that they are truly appreciated and cared for back at home.

I also got an email from a soldier on his second tour. Turns out he is from Jacksonville! Can you believe it? Out of the thousands of soldiers out there I sent a card to one from home! He really appreciated hearing from me.

I can't wait for all of us to send cards to our men and women of the 39th! Who knows, you may just get an email or a card back as well!!!

Have a great day!
Stephanie

FREE MAIL!!!

I was so excited to come back from my Christmas vacation to find FREE MAIL in my mailbox! For those of you that don't know, FREE MAIL is mail sent by deployed soldiers. When they are deployed they don't have to pay postage. They write FREE MAIL where the stamp is supposed to go.

Anyway, I had 3 Christmas cards in my mailbox from soldiers that I had sent cards to. It makes me feel really good that I can send a little bit of home half way across the globe! It is even better when I hear back from them!
